Meet the Serge Team!

·2 mins

Meet each member of the SERGE Storm Chasing Team! Below is everyone on the team, along with their titles and what they have done!

Mason Edwards

Team Co-Lead

Lead Electrical Engineer

Mason Edwards is the reason this team exists today. He is the mastermind when it comes to planning, building and operating the storm probe, along with being the designated driver when chasing.

“My name is Mason, and I am attending Cal Poly SLO for Computer Engineering. Some of my favorite hobbies are motocross and boxing. I became interested in storm chasing because of my passion for electronics. I have been working with computer hardware and software since I was nine years old. The Storm Probe, developed in 2025, was created to combine a variety of engineering and IT skills into a project designed to help people. I have been lucky enough to see two different tornadoes in Wisconsin, and we are hoping to collect data from one this year using the new probe we have been developing.”

Eli Mares

Team Co-Lead

Lead Software Engineer

Eli Mares is the person behind the code of the entire team. He manages the websites, the software on the probe, and is the radar anaylst when chasing out on the field.

“Hey yall! My name is Eli Mares, and I’m a second year at Rochester Institute of Technology. Some of my favorite hobbies are coding, takewondo, and gaming with friends. When I was younger, I was always obsessed with the weather. I must have watched the original “Storm Chasers” on DVD almost a hundred times! I was really lucky to meet Mason Edwards during my time at high school, and getting to share the same passions with him that I do. When he originally reached out to me about designing the first probe, the Wisconsin Mobile Storm Probe, I was estatic. I’m so glad to be a part of this team, and I’m excited to see how it continues to grow from here”
